Dear students,
Do not work illegally as a student’s pass holder
Please take note we have received a circular from the Ministry of Manpower that if any student is caught working part-time, then they will face a severe penalty.
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has taken enforcement actions against Student Pass holders for working illegally at hotels, restaurants, and logistics warehouses in recent months.
Please note that you are not allowed to work in Singapore unless you have a valid work pass.
Working without a valid work pass is an offence under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, and it is also a breach of the Terms and Conditions of your Student’s Pass.
Student’s Pass holders found to be working illegally can face a fine of up to $20,000 or imprisonment of up to two years or both upon conviction. MOM and ICA will also cancel their Student’s Passes, deport them, and debar them from future employment in Singapore.
Employers who illegally employ these Student’s Pass holders, or abet these Student’s Pass holders in illegal employment, can face a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $30,000, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both. Their work pass privileges may also be suspended.
MOM will continue to step up checks, and enforcement action will be taken against individuals who fail to comply. If you have any queries, please contact MOM at mom_fmmd@mom.gov.sg or ICA at ICA_STP2@ica.gov.sg.
If any of our students are caught working illegally, Global School of Technology and Management will take strict action against them and bar them from the programme.
Students are required to comply with Singapore law and must not engage in any sort of Part-time or other employment, failure to which strict action will be taken against them.
Your faithfully
Alyssia Wong
